Mamtha Banerjee pursued her Masters in Computer Science at the University of Illinois Chicago, a public research university known for its diverse student body and strong computer science program. She also completed the Executive Development Program at the University of Washington's Michael G. Foster School of Business, which offers executive education programs for business leaders.
Banerjee began her career as a Senior Development Manager at GetThere from 2001 to 2004. She then moved on to Travelocity, where she served as the Director of Technology, Architecture from 2005 to 2006. Travelocity, an online travel agency, was one of the early pioneers in the online travel booking space.
Entrepreneurial Ventures
In 2008, Banerjee founded InvestmentYogi, a leading personal finance portal in India that offered online financial planning and tax filing services. The product was judged as one of the best online tax filing products in India by Mint newspaper. She served as the CEO until 2012.
Banerjee's next entrepreneurial venture was Magicflix, a safe, curated video service for kids under 10 on mobile devices. Magicflix, a Techstars Seattle 2014 company, offered content that was both fun and educational. The service was available on Google Play and iTunes and was preloaded on over 300,000 kids tablets made by Kurio and ClicknKids. Banerjee served as the Founder and CEO from 2013 to 2015.
Leadership Roles at Expedia Group
In 2015, Banerjee joined Expedia Group, a global travel technology company, as the Director of Technology for Lodging Supply Partner APIs. She launched a lodging marketplace for Expedia's largest business and was responsible for the Developer APIs for over 400 lodging suppliers. She also oversaw the application and technology for Trover.com.
From 2018 to 2021, Banerjee served as the Senior Director of Technology for Expedia's Conversation Platform. She launched the Conversational Platform to provide an intuitive, scalable, and personalized customer experience, seamlessly connecting customers with intelligent virtual agents across various channels like social media, SMS, web, and voice.
As the Vice President of Technology for Open World API Platform and Identity (IAM) from 2021 to 2022, Banerjee delivered the foundation for Expedia's Open World Travel Platform. This enabled the externalization of Travel APIs and no-code/low-code solutions for third-party partners and developers. Her charter included identity and access management across several hundred million users, multi-tenancy (SaaS), configurability, data engineering, partner and user data stores, product catalog of externalized services, and partner self-service experiences.
Current Role at JPMorgan Chase & Co.
Since October 2022, Banerjee has been serving as the Managing Director and GM of Core Platform Engineering and API Platform & Marketplace at JPMorgan Chase & Co. In this role, she leads core platform engineering products including the API Marketplace, New Banking Architecture, and Runtime Engineering.
Advisory and Mentorship Roles
Banerjee has been an active mentor and advisor. She has been a Mentor for the Masters in Entrepreneurship program at the University of Washington since 2017 and an Advisory Board Member for the Women's Entrepreneurial Leadership program at the university since 2019.
From 2020 to 2021, she served as a Mentor for the Duke Technology Scholars program, which aims to inspire a more diverse group of Duke students to choose careers in computer science and electrical & computer engineering.
Banerjee is also an Advisory Board Member and Investor at Pack Ventures since March 2022. Pack VC is a pre-seed and seed venture fund that invests in founders from the University of Washington ecosystem.
Certifications
Banerjee has completed certifications in "Introduction to TensorFlow for Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning" from DeepLearning.AI in November 2020 and "Building Conversational Experiences with Dialogflow" from Coursera in May 2020, demonstrating her commitment to staying updated with the latest technologies.
